Don’t know if there are any fall activities that measure up to apple picking. There’s just something magical about heading out with your crew and picking apples straight from the vine. Not only do you get the best way to make some picture-perfect memories, but you also get piles of apples to do whatever you’d like. Throw them in a crockpot for some easy apple sauce or spend the day making a pie just the way your grandma used to make them. The possibilities are endless (and they all smell pretty darn good)! As a Raleigh family photographer, I love working with parents to plan sessions so they can celebrate each and every season. If you are looking for the best apple picking in Raleigh, here are the two farms to check out!
506 Parks Crossroads Church Road, Ramseur, North Carolina 27316
Millstone Creek Orchards first burst onto the scene in 2001 when Byrd and Diane Isom planted some apple trees. In the beginning, Byrd sold the apples out of the back of his truck, eager to share the produce to anyone in the community who cared enough to stop by. In 2004, however, the couple decided to kick things up a notch. They started to grow more crops while inviting in the community.
Now, their apple-picking season is an annual tradition for families all across Raleigh! They put education into the heart of all they do. You’ll learn what it takes to grow and maintain the orchards, and you can watch a cider demonstration before trying out a sample. They also have hayrides to the orchards where you can pick the apples straight from the trees. They will even let you try some out before bringing them home. It’s the perfect way to get into the autumn spirit!
502 John Jones Rd, Bahama, North Carolina 27503
Many Rivers Farm is a nationally recognized spot that has some of the freshest produce around! This farm is dedicated to finding sustainable farming methods so you can continue to enjoy their goods for years to come. While they dabble in a bit of everything in Raleigh, their apple picking continues to be the star of the show! You can come out and try varieties such as Granny Smiths, Sundance, Winecrisp, Enterprise, Goldrush, Arkansas black, Pink Lady, and Rubellite. Before you leave your house, swing by their website so you know what’s available today. The apples are available from July through October, and you will pay by the pound.
With these spots for apple picking in Raleigh, your family memories can be served à la mode! Now, you just need a way to make all of these magical moments last a lifetime. That’s where I come in.
